Gretchen Whitmer: Michigan Governor Acquitted

Federal Jury Finds Two Men Not Guilty in Kidnapping Plot

Acquittal Follows Trial That Lasted Two Weeks

A U.S. federal jury has acquitted two men accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The verdict came after a two-week trial in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The defendants, Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr., were charged with conspiracy to kidnap the governor in October 2020. Prosecutors alleged that the men were part of a group that planned to kidnap Whitmer from her vacation home and possibly put her on trial for treason.

The defense argued that the men were entrapped by undercover FBI agents and that they did not have a real plan to kidnap the governor. The jury agreed with the defense, finding that the defendants were not guilty of conspiracy to kidnap.

The acquittal is a major victory for Whitmer, who has been a vocal critic of the defendants and their alleged plan. In a statement following the verdict, Whitmer said, "I am grateful to the jury for their service and for upholding the rule of law. This verdict sends a clear message that threats of violence against our elected officials will not be tolerated."
