One new mpox case detected, says Health Ministry

Mpox continues to be a notifiable disease in Malaysia

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected one new case of mpox in the country.

This brings the total number of cases reported in Malaysia to 29 since the first case was detected in July this year.

The latest case involves a 31-year-old local man with no history of travel abroad.

He developed symptoms on November 22 and was admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment.

The patient is currently in stable condition and is being treated in isolation.

The MOH is conducting contact tracing to identify close contacts of the patient.

Close contacts will be monitored for symptoms of mpox and will be offered vaccination if necessary.

The MOH is reminding the public to take precautions to prevent the spread of mpox.

These precautions include avoiding close contact with people who are infected with mpox, practicing good hand hygiene, and getting vaccinated against mpox.

Mpox is a rare but potentially serious viral infection that can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person or animal.

Symptoms of mpox can include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash that can develop into blisters.

There is no specific treatment for mpox, but the symptoms can be managed with supportive care.

The mpox vaccine is effective in preventing infection and reducing the severity of symptoms.

The MOH is urging the public to get vaccinated against mpox to protect themselves and others from this infection.
